Although world drug makers spend
around $150 billion on research and development, Russia has made a breakthrough
in the drug-making industry with its anti-Covid vaccine.
Growing
world population and the need to combat disease and pandemics are adding more
pressures on the world’s top 10 pharmaceutical companies to spend more. Probably, a new strategy for the sector will
be a must in the coming years.
The
pharmaceutical industry is forecast to total $1.5 trillion by 2023 on the back
of growing demand for medicines worldwide. Currently, it stands at around $1.2
trillion, according to WHO estimates.
In the
following lines, I overview the world’s top 10 pharmaceutical producers, but
first it is appropriate to shed light on Russian top drug makers.
